Bonsai Robotics Launches Amiga Line of Autonomous Farming Vehicles
Bonsai Robotics has unveiled its new lineup of autonomous agricultural vehicles, branded under Amiga. This launch represents the company’s first significant product expansion since acquiring the agricultural technology firm, farm-ng, in July 2023. The new models, including the Amiga Flex, Amiga Trax, and Amiga Max, aim to automate a variety of labor-intensive tasks within farming operations.
The Amiga Flex stands out as the first vehicle fully integrated with Bonsai’s proprietary Bonsai Intelligence software stack. Each vehicle utilizes a vision-based autonomy platform, which enables it to navigate complex farm environments without relying on GPS. The vehicles are equipped with advanced sensor arrays and perception algorithms designed to identify essential features such as rows, obstacles, and terrain boundaries. This technology supports multiple applications, including harvesting, mowing, spraying, and transporting materials.
According to Bonsai Robotics, the Amiga Flex is capable of carrying a payload of up to 800 pounds, with a towing capacity of 1,600 pounds and more than eight hours of runtime per battery charge. The modular design of the platform allows it to adapt to specific crops and field conditions by carrying various implements or tools.
Tyler Niday, CEO of Bonsai Robotics, emphasized the significance of this launch by stating: “The Amiga Flex is our next step toward delivering affordable, intelligent autonomy to every grower. By uniting the heritage of farm-ng’s mechanical innovation with Bonsai’s AI-first autonomy software, we can bring practical automation to small and midsize farms faster than anyone else.”
The company’s Bonsai Intelligence platform leverages artificial intelligence and computer vision to facilitate perception, planning, and control, aiming to achieve fully autonomous operations in diverse agricultural environments. Production of the Amiga lineup is set to commence in 2026, with early pilot deployments already taking place in vineyards, orchards, and specialty-crop farms across California.
Bonsai Robotics asserts that the Amiga vehicles will enhance efficiency in farming by performing a wide range of tasks, including weeding, material transport, spraying, towing, mowing, and crop scouting. As the demand for automation in agriculture continues to rise, the introduction of the Amiga lineup positions Bonsai Robotics as a key player in the evolving landscape of agricultural technology.
