The shooting of Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis has sparked confrontations with bystanders, as newly surfaced footage reveals tense interactions in the aftermath of the incident. The events unfolded on September 28, 2023, when agents engaged with Pretti, leading to his death and raising questions about the use of force.

Video recordings obtained from the scene depict chaotic scenes as agents clashed with civilians. In one clip, agents are seen restraining a man while bystanders aggressively film the encounter. As tensions escalated, an agent approached a woman filming the incident, brandishing what appears to be bear spray and forcibly taking her phone. The situation rapidly deteriorated, with voices raised amid the unfolding chaos.

Earlier footage from inside a vehicle at the location of the shooting presents a different narrative regarding the events leading to Pretti’s death. The video shows agents confronting Pretti after one officer forcefully pushed a woman to the ground. Contrary to claims by officials, Pretti appears to move toward the woman to assist her, rather than to pose a threat to the agents. The footage captures the moment when agents deployed pepper spray against both Pretti and the woman before forcibly bringing Pretti to the ground.

As agents surrounded Pretti, one officer reportedly removed a handgun believed to be Pretti’s legally permitted firearm from his waistband. Shortly thereafter, another agent fired multiple shots, resulting in Pretti’s death. Notably, at no point does the footage indicate that Pretti drew or aimed a weapon during this confrontation. Instead, he is seen holding what looks like a phone moments before he was pinned and shot.

The narrative presented by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino asserts that Pretti posed a threat to law enforcement. However, the accumulating video evidence suggests a different reality, portraying Pretti as a man attempting to assist a distressed individual amid aggressive actions directed at bystanders documenting the incident.

The ongoing scrutiny of the Border Patrol’s actions during this incident highlights significant concerns about the use of force and the treatment of civilians during police operations. As the investigation continues, the community is calling for accountability and a thorough review of the protocols governing law enforcement interactions.
