‘Boston Blue’ Secures International Success with Global Sales
Detectives Danny Regan and Lena Silver are set to capture audiences worldwide with the successful international sale of the new series Boston Blue. The show, a spin-off of the popular Blue Bloods, made its world debut at the MIPCOM market in Cannes last week. Following its international launch, Boston Blue has been sold in over 100 markets, according to reports from Deadline.
In this new series, Donnie Wahlberg reprises his role as Danny Regan, who relocates from New York City to Boston. He is joined by Sonequa Martin-Green as his partner, Lena Silver. The series premiered on CBS in the United States on October 17, 2023, with episodes available for streaming on Paramount+ the day after airing on traditional television.
Global Buyers Eager for ‘Boston Blue’
The enthusiasm from international buyers for Boston Blue has been significant. Buyers include AXN Asia and Coupang Play in South Korea, as well as M-Net for Africa and Sky for New Zealand. The show has also secured distribution in German-speaking regions through Sky, alongside additional agreements with Play Media in Belgium, Cosmote TV in Greece, Síminn in Iceland, and beIN in Cyprus and Turkey. In Australia, the series will be available on CTV and on Paramount+.
The procedural drama format has a consistent appeal, which has fueled expectations for Boston Blue. The original series, Blue Bloods, has built a solid fan base globally, paving the way for this new installment. Achieving sales in over 100 territories has exceeded initial projections.
Future Prospects and Production Insights
The international sales of Boston Blue are managed by Paramount Global Content Distribution, which has successfully brokered these deals. Wahlberg, who serves as an executive producer, expressed optimism about the potential for a broader Blue Bloods franchise encompassing both series. CBS has a history of developing successful spin-offs, with the NCIS series being a prominent example.
International sales are crucial for funding and ensuring profitability for such productions. This responsibility falls to Lisa Kramer and the PGCD division, which is actively pursuing additional international deals for Boston Blue. As the series continues to expand its global reach, the excitement surrounding its future remains palpable.
