Celebrate the Season: Festive Performances at Groton Hill

The Groton Hill Music Center is set to host an array of festive performances this December, providing a diverse selection of holiday entertainment for all audiences. From classical music to jazz, the lineup features renowned artists and groups that are sure to evoke the spirit of the season.

Stephanie J. Block, a Tony Award winner known for her role in “The Cher Show,” will launch the holiday festivities with a concert on December 6, 2023. Her performance promises to include nostalgic holiday songs alongside beloved Broadway favorites. The venue, located at 122 Old Ayer Rd, Groton, serves as a nonprofit hub for music education and performance.

The following day, Mr. Sun, an American string band, will present their unique interpretation of Duke Ellington’s famed adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite.” This performance is scheduled for December 7 and is expected to captivate audiences with its innovative musicality.

On December 10, the award-winning a cappella group Take 6 will take the stage with their show titled “Spread Love at Christmas.” This renowned ensemble is celebrated for their rich harmonies and engaging performances, making it a must-see holiday event.

The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus, known for its vibrant performances that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, will perform their much-loved holiday spectacular, HOLIGAYS, on December 21. According to Ben Arnold, Marketing and Partnerships Manager for the chorus, the event aims to transform the stage into a “celebration of togetherness, pride, and holiday cheer.”

The Vista Philharmonic Orchestra will provide their own holiday pops experience from December 11 to 14, featuring a series of five shows led by conductor Bruce Hangen. With tickets starting at an accessible $30, this event is designed to be family-friendly, appealing to audiences of all ages.

Following the orchestra’s performances, the Nefesh Mountain Band will bring their “Love and Light Tour” to Groton Hill on December 17. The Groton Hill Big Band will perform holiday standards on December 18, while Lúnasa is set to deliver an Irish solstice celebration on December 19.

Wrapping up the holiday season, jazz singer Jane Monheit will return to the concert hall on December 20, contributing to an exciting final week of performances.

Arnold emphasized the special relationship between the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus and Groton Hill, highlighting the venue’s exceptional acoustics and warm atmosphere. He noted, “Each year, the community welcomes us with warmth and enthusiasm, reminding us why we do what we do: bring people together through the power of music and celebration.”
