Chicago Unveils Exciting Lineup for 2026 Festival Season
The City of Chicago has announced an exciting lineup for its 2026 festival season, set to kick off in May. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, alongside Mayor Brandon Johnson, unveiled the schedule that features over a dozen events, including concerts, food festivals, and cultural gatherings. Residents and visitors can look forward to a vibrant summer filled with music, dance, and culinary delights.
“Chicago’s festival season is a celebration of who we are as a city. We are creative, diverse, welcoming and full of life,” Johnson stated. He emphasized that the lineup reflects the city’s commitment to ensuring joy, access, and opportunity for everyone.
Key Events Throughout the Summer
The festival season will include a wide range of activities from May through October, starting with the opening of the Division Street Market on May 16 and the Daley Plaza Market on May 21. These markets will offer fresh produce and local goods, enhancing the community spirit that is characteristic of Chicago.
On May 23, the city will hold the Memorial Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony and Parade at Daley Plaza, with the parade set to start at noon along State Street. This event marks the beginning of the summer festivities, celebrating both community and remembrance.
Music lovers can look forward to the Chicago Blues Festival, taking place from June 4 to June 7 at the Ramova Theatre and Millennium Park. Following this, the Millennium Park Summer Music Series will run from June 15 to August 6, featuring nine concerts at the iconic Jay Pritzker Pavilion.
Food enthusiasts will not want to miss the Taste of Chicago, scheduled for July 8 to July 12 in Grant Park. This beloved event showcases a variety of local eateries and offers attendees a chance to sample Chicago’s culinary staples.
Celebrations and Cultural Showcases
As the summer progresses, the festival season will include the Chicago Gospel Music Festival on July 24 and 25, the Chicago Air and Water Show on August 15 and 16, and the Chicago House Music Festival and Conference from August 27 to 30. These events highlight Chicago’s rich musical heritage and its diverse cultural landscape.
In September, the Chicago Jazz Festival will take place from September 3 to 6, followed by the World Music Festival Chicago from September 25 to October 4, showcasing global musical traditions and local talent alike.
The season will culminate with the City of Chicago Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 20 and the New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 31, ensuring that the festivities extend well into the winter months.
