Classic Outdoors Show “Minnesota Bound” Switches to KSTP After 30 Years
After three decades on KARE 11, the beloved outdoor program Minnesota Bound is moving to KSTP-TV, with new episodes set to debut on January 4, 2024. The show will air weekly at 23:00 on Sunday nights and again at 21:30 the following Saturday on KSTC-TV, depending on viewer providers. This transition marks a significant shift for the series, which has become a staple of Minnesota television.
Legacy of Minnesota Bound
Launched in 1995 by renowned outdoors columnist Ron Schara, Minnesota Bound has captivated audiences with its engaging storytelling and vibrant visuals. Over its extensive run, the show has produced more than 850 episodes featuring outdoor adventures and insights. Following Schara’s retirement in 2018, his daughter, Laura Schara, and outdoorsman Bill Sherck took over hosting duties, ensuring the show’s legacy continues.
The show will maintain its current format despite the network switch, a decision that Scott Fransen, CEO of Ron Schara Productions, believes will enhance the program’s reach and storytelling capabilities. In a recent statement, he expressed optimism about the move: “This move is the right step to broaden Minnesota Bound’s footprint and to continue our storytelling legacy for the next 30 years.”
The Future of Outdoor Programming
Since retiring, Ron Schara has remained involved with the show, sharing his expertise and passion for the outdoors. He also authored a book in 2021 titled “Ron Schara’s Minnesota: Mostly True Tales of a Life Outdoors,” further cementing his commitment to outdoor journalism.
The transition to KSTP-TV reflects a broader trend in local television programming, where established shows seek new platforms to reach wider audiences. As viewership habits evolve with digital media, programs like Minnesota Bound are adapting to ensure their survival and relevance in a competitive landscape.
With its rich history and continued emphasis on storytelling, Minnesota Bound aims to inspire a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts while honoring its legacy. As the show embarks on this new chapter, fans can look forward to more captivating episodes exploring the natural beauty of Minnesota and beyond.
