Residents of Greater Pittston can look forward to a series of vibrant community events this fall, celebrating Halloween, All Saints Day, and local traditions. A highlight will be the All Hallows Eve organ concert at St. John the Evangelist Church on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Starting at 2 p.m., parish organist and music director Michael Sowa will perform a program designed to evoke both powerful and peaceful themes, melding the spirit of the upcoming celebrations with a touch of Halloween mischief. Guests are encouraged to contribute a free-will offering, which will support the care and maintenance of the church’s historic 1930 Kilgen pipe organ.

The festivities continue with the Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association Halloween dinner dance scheduled for October 25, from 5 to 10 p.m. This lively event will feature entertainment by the Fabulous 45’s and includes a cash bar. Tickets are priced at $30, with reservations required by October 22. Attendees can also participate in costume contests, with prizes for the best, funniest, and scariest outfits.

On the same day, the Dupont Neighborhood Crime Watch will host a trunk or treat event from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Church parking lot on Lackawanna Avenue, providing a safe environment for families to celebrate Halloween.

The festivities will continue the following day, October 26, with the Hughestown Lions Club Halloween parade and party starting at 1 p.m.. The parade will commence at the intersection of Rock and Center Streets, culminating at the Center Street pavilion. Participants can enjoy a costume contest, candy, and a raffle for two bicycles, ensuring fun for families of all ages.

As Halloween approaches, the Hughestown Neighborhood Crime Watch will also host its annual Candy Crawl on October 31 at 6 p.m. in the town square. The event will feature light refreshments, candy, and goodies for trick-or-treaters, welcoming all community members.

Looking ahead, the Order of the Eastern Star will hold a spaghetti fundraiser on November 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wyoming Masonic Lodge. Priced at $15, the meal includes spaghetti, salad, bread, a drink, and dessert, along with a basket raffle and 50/50 draw.

The Exeter Scouts BSA Troop 311 and 311G will host a pulled pork dinner on November 2, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Exeter Scout Home and Community Center. For $12, attendees will enjoy a meal consisting of a pulled pork sandwich, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and dessert. Advance tickets are encouraged, with limited availability on the day.

Recognizing the contributions of veterans, the Wyoming Area School District will hold a veterans luncheon and program on November 12. Those interested must RSVP by November 3 for a noon luncheon, followed by a program at 1:30 p.m.. Veterans can confirm their attendance by contacting Mary Kraynak at 570-655-3733 or via email to Maureen Pikas at [email protected].

In addition, Exeter residents can enjoy a discounted stay at the Kalahari Water Park on November 7, exclusively for borough residents and their families. The package costs $239 and includes a one-night stay along with four water park passes. For the discount code, residents can email their details to [email protected].

The community will also partake in the Exeter Turkey Trot 2025 on November 29, starting at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church. Registration fees are set at $30 for the 5K and $15 for a one-mile walk. Attendees can expect food trucks and music, with proceeds benefiting the Wyoming Area High School Class of 2026 Senior Scholarship.

A new initiative, the pay what you can produce stand, will run from 5 to 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month through October at Duryea VFW Post 1227. This program, organized by the Duryea Betterment Committee and the Food Dignity Movement, allows participants to take fresh, local produce while contributing what they can.

Lastly, the Dupont Lions Club is inviting community members to support their fundraising efforts through the Save a Tape Program at Redner’s Warehouse Markets. Participants can drop off grocery receipts at the municipal building for a 1% cash-back donation to nonprofit organizations. New members are welcome, and interested individuals can contact Chris Kalmanowicz for more information.

These events not only celebrate the season but also foster community spirit, bringing residents of Greater Pittston together in a variety of meaningful ways.
