Creator Reveals New Insights on Algira Ahead of Anime Return
The acclaimed creator of Yona of the Dawn, Kusanagi Mizuho, has unveiled new details about the series’ most underrated character, Algira, as anticipation builds for the anime’s return. The beloved manga, which concluded in December 2025, still has significant storylines left to adapt in its anime format. Although fans have been eagerly awaiting updates regarding the anime’s release date, no announcements have yet been made.
After a decade-long hiatus, the anime confirmed its return, coinciding with the manga’s recent revival, which includes new side stories. These narratives will be compiled in the final Volume 48. The manga’s conclusion left many questions regarding the characters’ futures, particularly for Yona, who is poised to assume her role as the ruler of the Kouka Kingdom, alongside her companions, Hak and Yoon. Meanwhile, the four Dragon Warriors are set to depart from Hiryuu Castle for different reasons, promising to reunite in the future.
A Year of Anticipation for Fans
With 2026 on the horizon, fans of Yona of the Dawn can look forward to both updates on the anime sequel and the release of new manga volumes. In a celebratory gesture, Mizuho marked Algira’s birthday this month, designating it as February 22, 2026, which coincides with Japanese Cat Day, reflecting the character’s fondness for cats. To commemorate the occasion, Mizuho shared a stunning illustration of Algira on her official X account.
Understanding Algira’s Role
Algira is a renowned warrior from the Xing Kingdom, known for being part of the Five Stars. This neighboring kingdom has been embroiled in internal conflict regarding the succession of its throne. Algira aligns himself with the younger princess, Tao, who is committed to establishing peace with Kouka rather than pursuing conflict. His character embodies the struggle for peace amid a backdrop of historical tensions between the two kingdoms.
Prior to Yona’s group arriving in Xing, Algira approached them, intrigued by Ao, a small squirrel. This encounter allowed him to connect with Yona and her companions, highlighting his character’s depth. Algira first appeared in Chapter 127 of the manga, suggesting that he may not make his anime debut in the upcoming Season 2, as the anime still has much of Yona’s journey to cover. This includes the gathering of all Dragon Warriors, with Algira set to play a crucial role in their adventures.
The excitement surrounding Yona of the Dawn continues to grow as fans eagerly await further developments in both the anime and the manga. The revelation of character details such as Algira’s birthday adds a personal touch that resonates with the audience, deepening their engagement with the story.
