DreamWorks Launches Prequel Series for ‘The Bad Guys’ on Netflix
DreamWorks Animation has announced the development of a prequel series for its popular franchise, ‘The Bad Guys’, set to premiere on Netflix. This new series will explore the origins of the notorious team and how they transitioned into a life of crime, providing fans with deeper insights into their backstory. Following the success of the original films and several holiday specials, this prequel aims to attract both new viewers and dedicated fans of the franchise.
The prequel series, titled Breaking In, will feature a fresh voice cast distinct from the original films. Notably, Sam Rockwell, who voiced the character Wolf, and Marc Maron, known for his role as Snake, will not return for the series. Instead, Michael Godere will voice Wolf, while Chris Diamantopoulos takes over as Snake. Other characters will also see new voices, with Ezekiel Ajeigbe, Raul Ceballos, and Mallory Low stepping in for Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, and Awkwafina, respectively.
This strategic shift from film to television reflects DreamWorks’ commitment to expanding its animated universe. The franchise has already demonstrated strong performance, with the first film earning over $250 million globally in 2022 and the sequel grossing $237 million earlier this year. The franchise’s transition to television includes multiple holiday specials released on Netflix in recent years, further solidifying its place in family entertainment.
The prequel series aims to be accessible for young viewers, allowing them to enjoy the show without prior knowledge of the films. The creative team behind Breaking In hopes to engage a broad audience by presenting entertaining storylines that appeal to both children and adults.
As DreamWorks continues to explore new avenues for its animated properties, the expansion of ‘The Bad Guys’ franchise into a prequel series signifies a growing trend of animated content on streaming platforms. Fans can look forward to a new perspective on the characters they know and love, with the expectation that this series will complement the existing films rather than replace them.
While no official release date has been announced, anticipation is building for what promises to be an exciting addition to the Netflix lineup. As the streaming landscape evolves, DreamWorks’ commitment to storytelling remains steadfast, ensuring that audiences will have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
