GTA V Actor Ned Luke Announces Conviction in Swatting Case
Ned Luke, the voice actor known for portraying Michael in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto V, announced that a person responsible for “swatting” him has been convicted. The conviction stems from an incident that occurred during a livestream on Thanksgiving Day 2023, when law enforcement officials were sent to his home following a false report.
Luke shared this update on his Instagram account, posting a photo of a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Victim Notification System. The letter, dated December 10, 2023, informed him of the conviction and indicated that the individual would be sentenced in Washington D.C. on January 27. Although Luke redacted the name of the convicted individual, he expressed relief and a sense of justice in his caption, stating, “F— around and find out. Many more names discovered and provided.”
The swatting incident occurred while Luke was livestreaming his gameplay of GTA Online. The stream was abruptly interrupted when he received a phone call, and he informed his viewers that law enforcement was present outside his residence. “I’ve gotta go, these a——- have swatted my house,” he said before ending the stream. Fortunately, Luke later confirmed that he was safe following the unsettling experience.
Swatting is a dangerous prank that targets livestreamers by falsely reporting emergencies to law enforcement. This practice can lead to a significant police presence, including SWAT teams, arriving at the location of the streamer, often without their knowledge, as they may be engaged in gameplay with headphones on.
The conviction in this case underscores the serious consequences of swatting and serves as a warning to those who might consider engaging in such reckless behavior. As Luke continues to share his experiences with his audience, he also highlights the need for accountability in the face of such threats.
