A significant update for Helldivers 2 has been released, enhancing gameplay with a range of balance adjustments, introducing a new tank vehicle, and increasing the challenge on the game’s highest difficulty settings. This patch, which went live in October 2023, also addresses various gameplay bugs and introduces new features aimed at improving player experience.

One of the most notable additions is the Bastion Tank, designed to “roll over entrenched enemies.” The tank will be available in-game shortly, along with the new Siegebreakers Warbond that players can utilize for added tactical advantages.

The update particularly targets veteran players seeking increased difficulty. According to the patch notes, changes have been implemented across all factions to heighten the intensity on difficulty levels nine and ten. The most significant adjustments affect the Automaton faction, while the other factions, Terminids and Illuminate, see comparatively minor changes.

In addition to these challenges, a comprehensive series of balance changes has been made to weapons and enemies. All melee weapons now boast a 50% increase in base damage, enhancing their effectiveness in close combat scenarios. While adjustments were made to the modifiers on armor passives that boost melee damage, the overall damage potential remains equal to or higher than before. This change aims to make the melee armor passive less essential yet still beneficial.

Changes to ranged weaponry have also been made. The sway modifier for submachine guns (SMGs) and pistols has been standardized to align with other weapons. This adjustment aims to maintain the distinct characteristics of these weapons as close-combat tools, making them less effective at long ranges.

Enemy adjustments are extensive, particularly regarding their ability to counteract Helldiver vehicles with substantial health. Changes include modifications to the attacks of various enemy types, such as Bile Titans, Chargers, and Crescent Overseers. The patch notes specify that certain adjustments will only impact specific targets, such as the Bastion Tank, while others will also affect the FRV and Exosuits utilized by players.

Moreover, improvements have been made to enemy aiming mechanics. Previously, Automatons on higher difficulty levels struggled with accurate targeting when multiple enemies were present. The new update enhances their aim calculations, ensuring they are more effective even in crowded scenarios, without imposing further performance costs.

The update also addresses numerous bugs and introduces a “hang detection” feature. If the game freezes for more than 20 seconds, Helldivers 2 will automatically crash itself. This action generates a crash dump file containing critical debugging information, assisting developers in diagnosing and resolving issues. Players experiencing a freeze are advised to allow at least 40 seconds before restarting their systems to let the hang detector function properly.

With these enhancements, Helldivers 2 aims to deliver a more engaging and challenging experience for players, all while expanding the tactical options available in the game. The community continues to engage with the evolving gameplay, eagerly anticipating how these changes will shape their missions in the universe of Super Earth.
