Kaley Cuoco Shares Insights on New Show ‘Vanished’ and Family Life
Kaley Cuoco, known for her roles in popular series like The Flight Attendant and Based on a True Story, has ventured into new territory with her latest show, Vanished. The MGM+ series, which premiered on February 1, 2024, features Cuoco as Alice, a woman whose romantic getaway with boyfriend Tom, played by Sam Claflin, takes a dramatic turn when he mysteriously disappears.
Filmed in the picturesque cities of Paris and Marseille, the project posed unique challenges for Cuoco, particularly as a new mother. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, the actress shared her initial reservations about committing to a role that required extensive time away from her family. Cuoco, who has a two-year-old daughter named Matilda with fiancé Tom Pelphrey, reflected on how motherhood has shifted her perspective on work and family dynamics.
“It was like, ‘Oh my gosh. How do I do this to my family?’” Cuoco stated, expressing her internal conflict about leaving home for two months. She described her feelings of guilt, noting that such a decision felt “indulgent and selfish,” as if she were abandoning her responsibilities for a two-month adventure in France.
Fortunately, Cuoco found support in her partner, who encouraged her to pursue the opportunity. “Luckily, I have an amazing partner who kept saying, ‘You got to go do this,’” she recalled. This reassurance allowed her to focus on her work once she arrived in France. “The minute I got there, I called home and I knew the family was good. I could totally relieve myself of worrying about that,” Cuoco added, highlighting the importance of a supportive partner in balancing career and family.
Cuoco described her experience filming Vanished as both liberating and fulfilling. She emphasized the joy of immersing herself in the vibrant culture and the camaraderie with the cast and crew. “I just had the time of my life and it felt very freeing,” she remarked. The actress also playfully noted her daughter’s indifference to her absence, saying, “She didn’t give two s****. It was like, ‘Do you miss me?’ and she was like, ‘I’m in my class.’”
The show, blending elements of drama and comedy, aligns with Cuoco’s preferences for storytelling. “I like that fine line because I feel like that’s true to life,” she explained. Cuoco has a penchant for true crime narratives and mysteries, believing they provide engaging entertainment without overly serious undertones.
Looking ahead, Cuoco is set to continue her creative endeavors with upcoming projects, including a collaboration with the team behind the series Hacks titled Kansas City Star. This project promises to return her to her comedic roots, an area she is passionate about. “I’m a comedy girl at heart. I just want to make people laugh,” Cuoco said, expressing her enthusiasm for the new venture.
As for future collaborations, Cuoco revealed her desire to work alongside Pelphrey, calling him her “favorite actor” and expressing hope that they will find a project that allows them to shine together.
Vanished is now streaming on MGM+, inviting viewers to join Cuoco in a blend of mystery and entertainment. As she navigates her dual roles as an actress and a mother, Cuoco continues to embrace the challenges and rewards of her career while cherishing her family life.
