Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is contemplating a visit to her father, Thomas Markle, who is currently hospitalized following a lower leg amputation on December 3, 2023. However, concerns over the presence of paparazzi have caused her to hesitate. Thomas, aged 81, has been living in the Philippines for several months and remains in a hospital following his recent surgery.

According to royal expert Emily Andrews, writing in *Woman & Home* magazine, Meghan and her father were once quite close. Their relationship began to deteriorate after Thomas posed for staged paparazzi photographs in 2018, which he later misrepresented to Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry. This incident left a lasting impact, and since then, Thomas has yet to meet his son-in-law or his grandchildren, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

Sources close to Meghan indicate that she has no plans to visit her father in person or to contact him by phone. The fear of their conversation being made public is a significant concern for her. Recently, a spokesperson for the Duchess confirmed that she did send a letter to her father’s hospital room following his public appeals for contact.

Reports suggest that a handful of reporters have been closely monitoring the hospital where Thomas is recovering. One source stated, “A reunion under the eyes of British paparazzi did not appeal to her.” The prospect of flying commercially also poses challenges, as Meghan finds the idea of traveling with the public unappealing. Chartering a private jet to the Philippines would cost approximately $175,000 each way, further complicating her decision.

While the strained relationship between Meghan and Thomas remains a topic of public interest, it highlights the difficulties that often accompany celebrity life, particularly for those navigating personal family dynamics under intense media scrutiny.
