Peggy Flanagan Engages Voters in Luverne During Senate Campaign Tour
In a pivotal moment for her U.S. Senate campaign, Peggy Flanagan, Minnesota’s Lieutenant Governor, visited Luverne on Saturday evening as part of her Loud & Clear Voice Tour: Caucus Kickoff. This event marked the 25th stop of her 44 planned engagements, designed to connect with citizens across the state whom she aspires to represent in Washington.
Connecting with the Community
Gathered at the Generations Event Center, Flanagan addressed a group of local residents. The meeting commenced with Barbara Veldhuizen, chairwoman of the Rock County Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, expressing gratitude for Flanagan’s commitment to visiting what she described as the “far reaches of the wilderness.” Following her remarks, Nicholas Fryer, Flanagan’s campaign organizer, outlined the upcoming steps for the Precinct Caucus scheduled for February 3. He shared an inspirational motto: “Find the rainbows in your clouds, but also be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.”
Flanagan opened her address by sharing her personal story, reflecting on how federal and state benefits supported her family during her childhood. “The people of Minnesota helped to lift us up, get us back on our feet. And now I get to pay that back,” she stated, emphasizing the personal nature of her campaign. She noted that many conversations across the nation about who belongs and who is worthy resonate deeply with her.
Addressing Local Concerns
Throughout her tour, Flanagan has engaged with individuals who express feelings of fear and frustration regarding the current political climate. She highlighted the impact of recent ICE raids, stating, “What is being done under the guise of safety is making us all less safe.” She acknowledged the anger and sadness felt by many, and urged a shift from defensive strategies to bold actions in the face of challenges.
“I am sick and tired of Democrats fighting from a defensive crouch or thinking that sternly worded letters are going to be what gets us out of this mess,” Flanagan declared. She called upon her supporters to be audacious and proactive, asserting that real solutions must stem from the experiences of everyday people.
Flanagan’s political background includes advocating for paid family and medical leave, ensuring school meals for children, affordable childcare, and raising the minimum wage. “When I get to Washington, everybody’s coming with me,” she asserted, emphasizing the importance of building a foundation for future generations, not just for the upcoming election in 2026, but for 2028, 2030, and beyond.
As Flanagan continues her campaign across Minnesota, her focus remains on fostering connections with constituents and addressing their concerns head-on. The community engagement seen in Luverne reflects the broader themes of her campaign: inclusivity, advocacy, and the pursuit of progressive change.
