Robbie G.K., star of the series Heated Rivalry, recently shared his thoughts on the show’s potential influence on professional hockey during the Season 2 premiere in Los Angeles. G.K. expressed optimism about the impact of sports-themed media, particularly in the context of the NHL. He remarked, “I certainly hope so,” emphasizing the importance of sports organizations taking cues from movements aimed at creating positive change.

The show, produced by Canadian streaming platform Crave and available in the U.S. on HBO Max, features G.K. alongside actors Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie. The narrative follows two professional hockey players who navigate a secret romance over a decade. In a pivotal scene, G.K.’s character, Kip, shares a heartfelt moment with his partner, Scott Hunter, played by Francois Arnaud, who publicly comes out after a Stanley Cup victory.

G.K. highlighted the growing recognition he has received since the show’s debut, noting that teams have reached out to him. He mentioned, “The Vancouver Canucks reached out to me, which me and my roommates were losing our minds about,” and that the New Jersey Devils also made contact. This level of engagement reflects the show’s burgeoning popularity among fans and the hockey community.

The series draws inspiration from Rachel Reid‘s collection of queer hockey romance novels titled Game Changer. As anticipation builds for Season 2, G.K. expressed hope for expanded storylines featuring his character and Scott, given their appeal. He quoted series creator Jacob Tierney, who humorously mentioned the need to disconnect from outside influences while crafting the new season. G.K. stated, “I’m just sitting around. My fingers are crossed but I appreciate having Rachel in my corner because that’s exciting.”

In addition to discussing his role, G.K. shared his excitement about the possibility of Miley Cyrus contributing music for the upcoming season. He reminisced about his admiration for Cyrus during her Hannah Montana days, saying, “That’s what I grew up on. That’s the reason I got into acting and musical theater in the first place.” He expressed a desire to meet Cyrus in person, reflecting his enthusiasm for the collaboration.

Since its release, Heated Rivalry has quickly gained traction, with its first two episodes premiering over the Thanksgiving weekend in 2023. G.K. reported an increase in public recognition, with fans approaching him to share their appreciation for the series. He recounted a touching moment when a flight attendant complimented him during a trip from his home in Vancouver to Los Angeles and noted a fan’s heartfelt letter presented to him at the airport.

As Heated Rivalry continues to resonate with audiences, G.K.’s reflections underscore the intersection of media, sports, and social change, highlighting the potential for entertainment to influence and inspire transformation within professional sports.
