Sunday Night Football Breaks Viewership Record with 23.5 Million
The 2025 season of Sunday Night Football (SNF) achieved a remarkable milestone, averaging a Total Audience Delivery of 23.5 million viewers across NBC and Peacock. This figure marks the highest viewership in the show’s history, surpassing the previous record of 22.6 million viewers set during the 2015 season. The increase of nearly 1 million viewers represents a 9% growth from last season’s average of 21.6 million, according to official data from Nielsen and digital analytics provided by Adobe Analytics.
The season culminated in an electrifying Week 18 AFC North Championship Game, featuring the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. The tightly contested match concluded with the Steelers triumphing over the Ravens, 26-24, showcasing the competitive spirit that has become a hallmark of SNF. Viewership for the championship game peaked at 27.5 million viewers during the second quarter, specifically between 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET. As the game reached its thrilling conclusion, the average viewership rose to 26.1 million viewers during the final moments, between 11:30 p.m. and 11:35 p.m. ET.
Record-Breaking Season Highlights
Throughout the season, SNF displayed impressive numbers, with a record of 8 games averaging more than 25 million viewers. Additionally, the streaming segment achieved a new milestone with an Average Minute Audience of 2.5 million viewers, predominantly driven by Peacock’s offerings. These figures underscore the growing popularity of NFL games, particularly on digital platforms.
As the 20th season of SNF concludes, anticipation builds for Super Bowl LX, set to take place on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. This event will mark NBC’s 21st Super Bowl broadcast, featuring live streaming on Peacock and a Spanish-language telecast on Telemundo. The upcoming Super Bowl will also be bookended by the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, further enhancing NBC’s programming lineup.
The success of this season primarily reflects the enduring appeal of Sunday Night Football and its ability to engage a diverse audience across various platforms. As the NFL continues to innovate and expand its reach, the record-setting viewership of 2025 may set the stage for even greater achievements in the seasons to come.
