Theatre Guild Valdosta Unveils Original Holiday Show, “Christmas in the Air”
Theatre Guild Valdosta is set to present its original holiday production, “Christmas in the Air,” from December 17 to 21 at the Dosta Playhouse in Valdosta, Georgia. The play revolves around a diverse group of travelers who find themselves stranded at an airport during a Christmas Eve snowstorm, leading them to celebrate the holiday together in unexpected ways.
The story unfolds as a mother and daughter en route to Seattle, a newlywed couple heading to Hawaii, a family of entertainers, and a group of siblings become unlikely companions during their forced layover. Joined by airport staff and other stranded passengers, they resolve to make the most of their situation, resulting in a memorable Christmas celebration filled with music and camaraderie.
Written by the late Grant Brown and co-written by members of the Guild, including Pauline Player, Patti and Josh Robertson, Brenda Brunston, and Brock Mills, “Christmas in the Air” first premiered in 2018. This year, director Alijah Patterson has introduced new elements to the production while retaining the original’s spirit, which features a collection of holiday songs that enhance character development and engage the audience.
The rehearsal schedule for this production has been notably brief, with just 18 rehearsals leading up to opening night. Melissa Glasscock, the assistant director, highlighted the rapid pace at which the show came together. The timing of the performances this year is also significant, as Theatre Guild traditionally staged holiday productions earlier in December. Now, audiences in South Georgia can experience a festive show closer to Christmas.
The cast of “Christmas in the Air” includes a vibrant ensemble of local talent, featuring Morgan McClendon, Taylor Sharfner, Frances Ann Layton, and many others, showcasing the rich artistic community in the region.
The creative team behind the production includes Megan Crawford as stage manager, Ben Hawley Jr. as producer, and Marcus Barajas in charge of lighting design. The music will be overseen by Melissa Glasscock and Ginger Keesling, with choreography by Kamari Samuels.
“Christmas in the Air” will run nightly at 7:30 p.m. from December 17 to 20, with a matinee performance on December 21 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be reserved online at www.TheatreGuildValdosta.com or by calling (229) 247-8243.
This production promises to offer an engaging and heartwarming experience, bringing the spirit of the holidays to life for audiences just in time for Christmas.
