Vince Russo: Road Dogg’s Departure Signals Need for WWE Changes
The recent departure of Road Dogg from WWE’s creative team has raised questions among fans about potential changes within the organization. Despite this exit, former WWE writer Vince Russo suggests that significant transformations are unlikely to occur in the near future. Road Dogg, who served as co-lead writer for the SmackDown brand, reportedly made the decision to leave following feedback from his annual performance review.
Russo Comments on WWE’s Creative Direction
In a video posted on YouTube, Russo expressed skepticism about the prospect of major shifts occurring within WWE. He stated, “Guys, you’re not going to see a change in this company unless there’s a change at the top.” Russo emphasized that the individuals currently in leadership roles have been entrenched in their positions for decades, suggesting that they are unlikely to alter their established approaches to storytelling in professional wrestling.
According to Russo, the long-standing figures within WWE are not aligned with the evolving landscape of entertainment. He remarked, “They are occupiers of the bubble. They live in the bubble. They reside in the bubble. They eat, sleep, drink professional wrestling in the bubble.” Russo further criticized the organization’s disconnect from contemporary trends, noting, “The bubble is about 25 years behind everybody else.” He concluded by asserting that the wrestling industry has fallen behind societal advancements, stating, “The wrestling business has been passed by.”
Impact on WrestleMania 42
Road Dogg’s exit comes at a pivotal time for WWE as the company prepares for WrestleMania 42, scheduled for April 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fans are keenly observing how this departure may influence creative decisions leading up to the highly anticipated event. Despite Russo’s assertions, the implications of Road Dogg’s departure remain to be seen in the context of WWE’s ongoing efforts to captivate its audience.
The future direction of WWE’s creative team will likely continue to be a topic of discussion as the company navigates its upcoming programming. As the wrestling landscape evolves, the reactions from fans and industry insiders will be crucial in assessing the impact of such personnel changes.
