Young@Heart Chorus to Perform Beatles Classics at Chocolate Church
The Young@Heart Chorus will bring the timeless music of The Beatles to life at the Chocolate Church Arts Center in Bath, Maine, on Sunday, October 26, 2023, at 14:00. This acclaimed ensemble, known for their uplifting performances, showcases the enduring spirit of creativity among singers aged between their 70s and 90s. The concert promises to be a celebration of the Fab Four’s most beloved songs, demonstrating that passion for music knows no age limits.
Matthew Glassman, executive and artistic director of the Chocolate Church Arts Center, expressed his excitement about hosting the chorus. “I’m thrilled to welcome Young@Heart to the CCAC. I’ve known them and their singular work for some time. It has taken a considerable effort to bring them here, coordinating a dozen octogenarians and a full band for a successful tour,” he stated. This collaboration has been made possible with support from the New England Foundation for the Arts, helping to offset costs and ensure a comfortable experience for the performers.
Founded in Northampton, Massachusetts, in 1982, the Young@Heart Chorus gained international recognition following the release of the 2007 documentary, “Young@Heart.” The film received an Academy Award nomination and garnered acclaim for its heartwarming portrayal of the chorus members. The documentary highlights their unique blend of humor, resilience, and a profound love for music, elements that continue to shine in their live performances.
Timeless Classics and Spirited Performances
The upcoming concert will feature a selection of Beatles classics such as “Hey Jude,” “Let It Be,” “Come Together,” and “Here Comes the Sun.” Backed by a professional live band, the chorus reinterprets these iconic songs, infusing them with fresh emotion and wisdom. Audience members can expect a performance that is both moving and infectious, embodying the essence of The Beatles’ music.
Critics have consistently praised the Young@Heart Chorus for their impactful performances. NPR’s Terry Gross remarked, “The Young@Heart Chorus is a revelation — singing not just with their voices, but with their lives.” The New York Times described the group as “a joyous, inspiring reminder that creativity doesn’t retire,” while The Guardian highlighted them as “proof that rock and roll can, in fact, keep you young.”
The Young@Heart Chorus has captivated audiences worldwide, performing for sold-out crowds and inspiring fans of all ages with their message of joy, hope, and endurance. As The Boston Globe eloquently stated, “The Young@Heart Chorus doesn’t just perform music — they embody it.”
Tickets for the October 26 concert are available online and at the Chocolate Church Arts Center box office. This event represents a unique opportunity to experience the magic of The Beatles through the extraordinary talents of the Young@Heart Chorus.
