Yura and Hong Jong Hyun Reflect on Their Journey 12 Years Later
The beloved reality variety show We Got Married, which aired on MBC from 2008 to 2017, featured celebrities engaging in staged marriages. Among its memorable pairs was actor Hong Jong Hyun and Yura from the girl group Girl’s Day. On January 8, 2024, Yura surprised fans by inviting Hong Jong Hyun as a guest on her YouTube channel, yurayurahae. This marked their first official reunion after more than a decade apart.
The 20-plus minute video captured a nostalgic exchange between the two, as they reminisced about their time on the show and shared their first impressions of one another. Their reunion was not just a trip down memory lane; it also provided insights into how they perceived each other back in the day.
Memories from We Got Married
Yura expressed her initial thoughts about Hong Jong Hyun, recalling, “I thought he might be kinda mean. Jong Hyun looked cold back then.” She remembered him walking around MBC Music Core, immersed in his “I’m looking for my wife” concept. Over time, she discovered that beneath his cool exterior lay a warm personality. “He’s a model. Like, model-actor vibes. Total ‘cold city guy.’ With that ‘hard to approach’ image, it felt like there was this wall I couldn’t break through,” she said. “But the more I got to know you, I was like, ‘Wow, you’re actually super soft inside and you take such good care of people. I really felt that while we were filming.’”
Hong Jong Hyun shared his own first impressions of Yura, recalling their initial meeting at MBC Music Core. “I walked into the Girl’s Day waiting room, and I was like, ‘Who is it?’ But I knew right away,” he said. He described her as initially appearing shy, with a “soft, girly vibe.” As they got to know each other, he appreciated their contrasting personalities, noting, “You were bright, talkative, and I was glad we were different.”
Reflecting on Their Dynamic
The chemistry between Yura and Hong Jong Hyun was evident, and both acknowledged the producers’ intention behind pairing them. Yura suggested, “It feels like they paired us on purpose. The PD probably thought, ‘If it’s her, maybe she can break through his wall,’ and wanted that picture. So they matched us like that.”
This reunion not only rekindled fond memories but also revealed how both individuals have grown since their time on the show. Fans of We Got Married will undoubtedly cherish this glimpse into the past, as Yura and Hong Jong Hyun reflect on their unique journey together.
