87% of Millennials and Gen Z Engage in Mindfulness, Yet Few Share
A recent survey reveals that a significant majority of Millennials and Gen Z adults are engaging in mindfulness and spiritual practices, yet a substantial gap exists in open discussions about these activities. According to the Munay Live Consciousness Survey 2025, conducted in November 2025, 87% of participants from this demographic reported involvement in at least one form of inner-development or ancestral practice. However, only 31% of those surveyed stated they openly talk about these practices.
This discrepancy suggests a growing interest in mindfulness and spiritual traditions that remains largely private. The survey targeted U.S. adults aged 18 to 44 with household incomes exceeding $100,000, utilizing the SurveyMonkey Audience platform, and included a sample size of 303 respondents, with a margin of error of ± 5.7%.
Insights into Practices and Preferences
Among the various modalities reported, respondents indicated participation in energy work (41%), breathwork (39%), sound-based practices (34%), divination (23%), and shamanic traditions (23%). When choosing a practitioner, participants emphasized the significance of practitioner lineage and personal referrals, while price ranked as the least important factor.
A noteworthy finding from the survey is the importance placed on integrating traditional wisdom with modern science, with 64% of respondents identifying this as essential or very important in their practice.
Barriers to Accessing Practices
The survey also highlighted two main barriers that prevent individuals from fully engaging with these practices. Approximately 28% of respondents expressed a need for support but indicated uncertainty about which modality to pursue, suggesting a guidance gap. Additionally, 17% reported difficulty in finding trustworthy practitioners, indicating a discovery gap. Notably, only 8% had ever secured a practitioner through social media, underscoring the need for more accessible pathways to these practices.
Chakaruna, founder of Munay Live, remarked on the implications of these findings: “People are engaging in these practices at remarkable rates, but many feel they can’t talk about them. That silence creates confusion, misinformation, and isolation. Our goal is to offer a space where these traditions can be explored openly.”
