Residents of Meridian, Mississippi, have the opportunity to learn about heart health at a free event hosted by the Community Health Improvement Network (CHIN) on February 11, 2026. The Healthy Heart Awareness Lunch & Learn will take place at noon at NorthPark Church, located at 7770 Highway 39 North. Attendance is open to the public, but participants must RSVP by February 9.

The session will feature Dr. Eesha Khan, a cardiologist, who will provide insights into cardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease and stroke—the leading causes of death in Mississippi. Dr. Khan will explain how coronary artery disease affects the major blood vessels supplying the heart and emphasize the importance of early symptom recognition in saving lives.

A key focus of Dr. Khan’s presentation will be the differences in heart disease symptoms between men and women. While men are more likely to experience chest pain, women may present with subtler warning signs, including shortness of breath, nausea, or extreme fatigue. These symptoms are often overlooked or misunderstood, making awareness crucial.

Beverly Knox, President of CHIN, stressed the significance of community education in combating heart disease. “Heart disease impacts families across our region, and too often the warning signs go unrecognized,” she stated. “This Lunch & Learn gives our community the opportunity to better understand heart health, recognize symptoms, and take proactive steps toward prevention.”

The Healthy Heart Awareness Lunch & Learn is part of CHIN’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to reliable health information and preventive care, particularly for underserved and at-risk populations. Since its establishment in 2016, CHIN has collaborated with healthcare providers, community organizations, and faith-based partners to address critical health needs identified through local assessments.

This event is not only an opportunity for education but also a call to action for residents to engage with their health and well-being. By participating, individuals can gain valuable knowledge that may empower them to manage their health more effectively.
