Dolly Parton Updates Fans on Health Following Husband’s Death
Dolly Parton has shared an update regarding her health, revealing that she has faced challenges while grieving the death of her husband, Carl Dean. In a video released on March 13, 2025, coinciding with the opening day of Dollywood, the country music legend admitted to feeling “worn down” following her husband’s passing and acknowledged some underlying health concerns.
Reflecting on the past year, Parton explained that she had not been touring due to these health issues. “I’ve had a few little health issues, and we’re taking good care of them,” she stated. In the video, she noted her struggle with kidney stones that required treatment back in September. Addressing her emotional state, she said, “I just kind of got worn down and worn out, grieving over Carl and a lot of other little things going on.” Carl Dean passed away on March 3, 2025, marking a significant loss for Parton.
Despite her challenges, Parton expressed optimism about her recovery. She indicated that she is working on rebuilding herself “spiritually, emotionally, and physically.” She reassured fans that these issues have not hindered her spirit or motivation: “But, all is good. It didn’t slow me down.”
In her characteristic humorous style, Parton also clarified her relationship status, emphasizing that she is not dating anyone following her husband’s death. “I think Carl Dean’s waiting for me,” she joked, suggesting that her late husband would not approve of her moving on too quickly. She humorously added, “If I should show up at the pearly gates with somebody else, he would not like that.”
Earlier, Parton had reassured fans about her health in an October 8, 2024, Instagram video, where she dismissed rumors of her being unwell. “I know lately, everyone thinks I’m sicker than I am. Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here,” she quipped while preparing for a performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee. She acknowledged that during her husband’s illness and after his passing, she had neglected her own health. “When he passed, I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of,” she admitted.
Parton concluded her October message with a light-hearted declaration, stating, “I ain’t dead yet!” This sentiment resonates with many of her fans, who continue to support the beloved artist through her healing journey.
Dolly Parton’s openness about her health and emotions provides a glimpse into the resilience of an iconic figure who has captivated audiences for decades. As she navigates personal loss, her dedication to her fans and her craft remains unwavering, ensuring that she continues to inspire many around the world.
