The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is organizing a fitness fundraiser to support Officer Jacob Soto as he battles Stage IV cancer. The event, titled “Stronger Than Cancer,” is set to take place on January 24, 2024, at the EPCSO Region VIII Training Academy. This initiative aims not only to raise funds for Officer Soto but also to foster community spirit through physical activity.

Sheriff Oscar Ugarte announced the event via social media, inviting the public to participate in a series of workout sessions. Participants can choose from three different time slots: 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 10:30 a.m.. The workout promises to be both physically challenging and a chance for attendees to show their support for a colleague in need.

In addition to promoting health and fitness, the fundraiser seeks to demonstrate the strength of community bonds. “Join us for a powerful workout, strong camaraderie, and a great cause,” Sheriff Ugarte encouraged in his post, emphasizing the dual purpose of the event.

While the focus is on physical participation, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office recognizes that not everyone will be able to attend due to distance or scheduling conflicts. For those unable to join in person, contributions can still be made through Officer Soto’s GoFundMe page. This provides an avenue for individuals beyond the local area to lend their support, ensuring that the fight against cancer extends beyond the gym.

Funds raised during the Stronger Than Cancer event will go directly toward supporting Officer Soto as he navigates his treatment journey. The Sheriff’s Office is hopeful that the community will rally together, not just for this event, but also to sustain ongoing support for Officer Soto and his family during this challenging time.

The initiative highlights the importance of community solidarity in the face of adversity. By coming together, participants can make a positive impact while also prioritizing their own health and fitness. As the day approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a powerful demonstration of unity and resilience.
