A new initiative in Doncaster is fostering mental well-being among new mothers while strengthening friendships. The Lakeside Mum Walk, launched by Jasmine Gardner and Georgina Betts last August, has quickly grown from a modest gathering of four mothers to a vibrant community, with the latest walk attracting 18 mothers and 20 babies.

Every Friday morning, participants gather to stroll around the scenic lake, pushing prams and baby carriers, while sharing invaluable support. After their walks, many attendees enjoy coffee together, enhancing the sense of camaraderie.

Jasmine Gardner shared her insights on the group’s impact, stating, “This has such a positive impact on mental health for new mums as we support each other with friendship, advice, and lots of laughs.” The group has gained recognition in the local community, with health visitors recommending it to new mothers, which further highlights its growing importance.

The Lakeside Mum Walk is open to all new mothers and expectant mothers interested in joining. For more information, potential members can visit the group’s Facebook page.

This initiative not only encourages physical activity but also provides a vital support network for mothers navigating the challenges of early parenthood. By coming together, these women are creating a safe space where they can share experiences and foster lasting friendships, illustrating the profound benefits of community support on mental health.

As the group continues to grow, it stands as a testament to the positive impact of connecting with others during the transformative journey of motherhood.
