Timothy McGowan, Esteemed Research Analyst and Theatre Enthusiast, Dies at 68
Timothy Andrew McGowan, a respected figure in the entertainment industry and a passionate theatre enthusiast, passed away in January 2025 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was 68 years old. Born in 1957 in Brooklyn, New York, to James and Joan McGowan, Tim was the third of six children descended from Irish immigrants. His family relocated to Maywood, New Jersey, in 1966, where he spent his formative years.
In 1971, the McGowan family made another move, this time to the San Fernando Valley in California. There, Tim attended Chaminade High School, a community he cherished long after graduation. Following his studies, he pursued a career in the entertainment sector, beginning as a research analyst at Columbia Pictures in 1985. Over the years, his dedication and expertise led him to attain the position of Vice President of Research at CBS/KCAL-9, where he made significant contributions to the industry.
Tim’s personal life was equally rich. He met Susan McDermott while acting at the Showboat Theatre in 1986, and the couple married in 1987. Together, they welcomed two sons: Matthew in 1989 and Morgan in 1992. After years apart, Tim reconnected with Pamela Meyer, a former classmate from Chaminade. Their partnership flourished for over 15 years, during which they traveled extensively together.
A Passion for the Arts and Life’s Challenges
In 2010, after a hiatus of 25 years, Tim returned to the theatre, participating in numerous productions in the Santa Clarita area. His passion for the arts was matched by his commitment to education; during this time, he achieved dual citizenship in Ireland and completed two Associate of Arts degrees.
Tim faced significant health challenges throughout his life. He successfully battled duodenal cancer in 2022, but a diagnosis of leukemia in late 2024 proved to be a more formidable opponent. Despite his struggles, Tim remained a source of inspiration for those around him.
Tim is survived by his life partner, Pamela Meyer; his sons, Matthew and Morgan; and his siblings, Terry, Jim, Colleen, and Cathy. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family and friends alike.
Tim McGowan’s legacy is one of dedication to family, passion for the arts, and resilience in the face of adversity. His contributions to both the entertainment industry and the local theatre community will not be forgotten.
