First Commerce and the Archbold Foundation have launched the sixth annual #FlamingoChallenge, a community fundraiser aimed at supporting local breast cancer patients. The initiative, which debuted on October 16, 2025, features a new mascot and innovative participation options while maintaining its core mission: to alleviate the financial burden of breast cancer treatment for those in need.

Fundraising Success and Community Impact

Since its inception, the #FlamingoChallenge has successfully raised nearly $80,000 for the Archbold Cancer Center Resource Fund, contributing to an impressive total of over $500,000 designated for breast cancer patients in South Georgia and North Florida. These funds are critical in covering both medical and non-medical expenses, which can include essential imaging for uninsured patients and travel costs for those too ill to return home after treatment.

Cecilia Homison, CEO of First Commerce, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “The Flamingo Challenge truly embodies our mission to empower generations and transform communities. We are deeply grateful to the individuals and businesses whose generosity powers this fundraiser.”

Engaging the Community Through Fun and Creativity

During the month of October, recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, supporters are encouraged to “adopt” flamingos for display in their yards or storefronts. Participants can share their flamingo photos on social media using the hashtag #FlamingoChallenge, tagging both First Commerce and the Archbold Foundation. This interactive approach not only raises awareness but also promotes community engagement.

In addition, organizations can enhance their contributions by pledging a portion of proceeds from sales, rounding up purchases, hosting contests, or organizing unique fundraising events. Each initiative helps ensure that every dollar raised remains local, directly benefiting those affected by breast cancer.

This year’s #FlamingoChallenge promises to unite the community around a meaningful cause, providing vital support to individuals facing the challenges of breast cancer treatment.
