Community Unites to Raise $26,179 for Hospice of Humboldt
A remarkable fundraising effort has taken place at Ben Hurd’s Christmas Tree Farm in Arcata, California, where local community members and the group known as Ben’s Bunch raised $26,179.91 for Hospice of Humboldt. This final season of the beloved holiday tradition not only provided families with an opportunity to select Christmas trees but also served as a heartfelt tribute to Ben Hurd’s legacy of generosity and community spirit.
Throughout the holiday season, families from across Humboldt County flocked to the farm, creating lasting memories while supporting a vital cause. The funds raised will directly benefit patients and families receiving care from Hospice of Humboldt, an organization dedicated to providing comfort and support during some of life’s most challenging moments.
Tia Baratelle, director of development at Hospice of Humboldt, expressed the significance of this initiative. “This meant so much to all of us,” she stated. “Ben’s Bunch turned a cherished community tradition into a powerful act of compassion. The $26,179.91 raised will directly support patients and families served by Hospice of Humboldt, ensuring they receive comfort, dignity, and heartfelt care.”
The contributions will enable Hospice of Humboldt to continue its essential services, including hospice care, home-based palliative care, and grief support for individuals and families in the area. Baratelle emphasized the community’s unwavering support, saying, “Humboldt has always shown up for one another. This final season at Ben Hurd’s Christmas Tree Farm was a beautiful reminder of how much compassion lives in this community.”
As the farm closed its gates for the last time, the spirit of unity and compassion showcased by the local community underscored the profound impact of Ben Hurd’s legacy, ensuring that his commitment to helping others will live on through the ongoing work of Hospice of Humboldt.
