Police in Jakarta are set to summon Dr. Richard Lee as a suspect in a case concerning alleged violations of consumer protection laws. This development follows the rejection of a pretrial motion submitted by Dr. Lee, as confirmed by Kombes Budi Hermanto, the spokesperson for Polda Metro Jaya. The police plan to conduct the examination next week.

The refusal of Dr. Lee’s pretrial motion was issued by a judge at the South Jakarta District Court. Kombes Hermanto explained that after respecting the court’s decision, the investigators will proceed with the formal summons for Dr. Lee. “Next week, we will schedule the questioning of suspect DRL as part of the ongoing investigation at the Directorate of Special Crimes in Polda Metro Jaya,” he stated during a press conference on February 11, 2026.

In light of the court’s decision, the police will conduct an internal review to finalize the schedule for Dr. Lee’s questioning. The judge had ruled against Dr. Lee’s challenge to the legitimacy of his status as a suspect. According to Hermanto, the court found that law enforcement followed proper procedures in the investigation.

“The pretrial motion from suspect DRL has been entirely rejected. Why? Because the investigators submitted the notification to the prosecutor, the complainant, and the reported party within seven days of issuing the notification. This indicates that the investigation is in accordance with applicable regulations,” he added.

This case has attracted significant attention, reflecting ongoing concerns about consumer protection in Indonesia. With the police moving forward, the legal proceedings against Dr. Richard Lee are poised to unfold in the coming weeks.
