LISC Honors Community Leaders at 2026 New Jersey Awards Ceremony

The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) New Jersey held its 17th annual Neighborhood Achievement Awards ceremony on March 5, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This event recognized the significant contributions of individuals and organizations dedicated to revitalizing under-resourced neighborhoods across the state. “This is our way to take an opportunity to celebrate the individuals and organizations who are on the ground doing the work,” stated Jorge Cruz, Executive Director of LISC New Jersey.

The ceremony began with doors opening at 17:00, allowing attendees to enjoy complimentary tours of the stadium until the formal proceedings commenced at 18:30. The event was hosted by Lisa Marie Falbo, who guided the audience through the evening’s program.

Awards Recognize Community Impact

The event featured multiple awards honoring exceptional leadership and community service. The first accolade presented was the Exceptional Leadership Distinction Award, which recognizes an individual whose leadership has significantly advanced the mission of LISC New Jersey. This year, the award went to Ken Meyers, AVP and Community Development Market Manager at Synchrony Bank. A native of Jersey City, Meyers expressed the importance of community involvement, stating, “It is an amazing feeling… I can see it. It is an amazing feeling, and you put your whole heart into it.”

Next, the Exemplary Public Partner Award was bestowed upon Senator Andy Kim, acknowledging his collaborative efforts in community revitalization. Senator Kim’s team was present to accept the award, and he shared a video message highlighting the importance of public service in fostering long-term growth.

The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation received the Exemplary Private Partner Award for its transformative contributions to New Jersey communities. Samra Haider, who accepted the award on behalf of the foundation, expressed pride in their partnership with LISC, stating, “It feels great because we are really proud of our partnership with LISC.”

Lifetime Achievement and Inspirational Advocacy

The Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes an individual’s enduring contributions to community development, was presented to Vivian Cox Fraser, President and CEO of the Urban League of Essex County. Fraser conveyed her deep connection to the mission of helping others, highlighting her family’s experiences with similar challenges faced by community members. “Helping members of the community is like helping members of your family,” she noted.

Lastly, the Rhonda A. Lewis Inspirational Community Advocate Award was awarded to Tenisha Malcolm-Witt, Vice President of External Affairs for the Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey and Founder of Outdoors On Purpose. This award recognizes individuals whose leadership and advocacy efforts have profoundly impacted urban community revitalization.

The evening served as a powerful reminder of the dedication and hard work of those committed to improving the lives of individuals in New Jersey’s under-resourced neighborhoods, demonstrating the impact of collaboration among various sectors in creating lasting change.
