MEO Honors Dellfinn Castroverde as Driver of the Year
Dellfinn Castroverde, a dedicated driver with over 30 years of service, has been named the Driver of the Year by Maui Economic Opportunity (MEO). The award was presented during a staff ceremony on February 26, 2024, recognizing Castroverde’s commitment to the residents of Maui County.
Recognition of Excellence in Service
Castroverde, who has been with MEO since April 1994, is the organization’s longest-tenured driver. Throughout her nearly 32 years with MEO, she has played a crucial role in transporting kūpuna (elders), youth, and individuals with disabilities to essential medical appointments and other vital services. Her unwavering dedication and professionalism have set a benchmark for the transportation program.
The award ceremony took place at MEO’s Wailuku classrooms, where Carol Davis from Atlas Insurance presented Castroverde with a plaque and a cash award. Davis highlighted Castroverde’s impressive safety record, reliability, and the compassionate approach she brings to every shift. “This individual’s dedication is evident not only in the length of her service but in the consistency, care, and professionalism she brings to every shift,” Davis stated.
Commitment to Community Transportation
The decision to honor Castroverde came following recommendations from the MEO Transportation management team, which were subsequently approved by the senior executive team. Evaluation criteria for the award included her excellent safety record, attendance, and the compassion she shows toward her riders.
In addition to the Driver of the Year award, Atlas Insurance also sponsors “Cash for No Crash” certificates and awards for drivers who maintain clean safety records throughout the year. MEO operates the Maui Bus paratransit and Maui County Human Services transportation programs, which provide no-cost rides to low-income, rural, and disabled residents for shopping, health appointments, and community events.
Residents seeking transportation services can schedule rides by calling 808-877-7651. Those interested in applying for driver positions are encouraged to contact MEO at 808-249-2990.
