The Cultures and Communities Club at Nashoba Valley Technical High School in Westford, Massachusetts, successfully organized a Spice Drive, collecting essential cooking items for local families. This initiative aimed to provide access to spices and cooking oils, empowering families to enhance their culinary creativity and preserve cultural traditions through family recipes.

Donations from the drive were given to the Lowell-based Coalition for a Better Acre (CBA), an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents in the area. The outreach effort not only supports families in need but also allows them to connect with their heritage through food.

On February 15, 2024, State Representative Vanna Howard, who is also a member of the CBA Board of Directors, accepted the generous donations from club members Emma Ehring and Aaron Jewer-Liles, both seniors from Chelmsford. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Cultures and Communities Club has held the Spice Drive, highlighting the school’s commitment to community service and cultural appreciation.

The initiative has become increasingly popular within the school community, demonstrating the impact that student-led efforts can have on local residents. As families receive these donations, they are not only given cooking supplies but also the opportunity to celebrate and share their heritage.

The Spice Drive reflects a growing recognition of the importance of cultural identity and the role of food in bringing communities together. By facilitating access to essential cooking ingredients, the students at Nashoba Tech are playing a vital role in ensuring that families can continue to create meals that are rich in tradition.

Through such initiatives, Nashoba Valley Technical High School is fostering a spirit of giving and community engagement among its students, encouraging them to take an active role in supporting those around them. The success of the Spice Drive serves as a testament to the kindness and dedication of the students involved and sets a positive example for future community-oriented projects.
