Rory McIlroy Receives Unique Gift from Caddie, Jokes About Scheffler
Rory McIlroy recently shared a remarkable Christmas gift he received from his caddie, Harry Diamond. The item, a framed scorecard from Augusta National Golf Club, features the signatures of legendary golfers, including Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, and Gene Sarazen. While McIlroy celebrated the gift, he also expressed concerns that fellow golfer Scottie Scheffler might soon add his own signature to the prized memorabilia.
In April 2023, McIlroy achieved a significant milestone by completing the career Grand Slam at the Masters. He secured his victory in a tense playoff against Justin Rose, marking him as only the sixth male player in history to win all four major championships. McIlroy’s emotional triumph at Augusta was underscored by his heartfelt moment with Diamond as he celebrated the win.
Speaking on “The Shotgun Start” podcast, McIlroy described the gift as a surprise he received while competing at the Australian Open earlier this month. He shared, “This is the first time anyone has really seen it,” as he displayed the scorecard on camera. The significance of the signatures was not lost on the podcast hosts, who recognized the gravity of the moment captured in the frame.
Diamond arranged the unique piece of sports memorabilia as a tribute to McIlroy’s historic achievement. The caddie’s role in McIlroy’s success is underscored by the fact that he typically earns around five to ten percent of McIlroy’s substantial on-course earnings, which were approximately $32 million for 2025.
Reflecting on the week of his Masters victory, McIlroy recalled the intensity of the final holes, admitting, “I was just throwing up all over myself for the last few holes.” His victory at Augusta marked the first time a player had joined the elite group of Grand Slam winners since Woods in 2000. With Scheffler on the verge of completing his own Grand Slam at the upcoming US Open, McIlroy quipped, “I just hope I don’t have to get Scottie to sign it next year!”
The golfing community responded enthusiastically on social media to McIlroy’s unique gift, with fans expressing their admiration. Comments ranged from “That’s awesome” to “What a gift,” highlighting the significance of the moment for both McIlroy and his supporters.
As the year draws to a close, McIlroy is also in the running for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, where he is favored to win the public vote. Following his Masters triumph, he contributed significantly to Europe’s victory at the Ryder Cup held in New York, further cementing his status as one of the top players in the sport.
With such a meaningful gift from Diamond and the potential for more accolades on the horizon, McIlroy’s achievements continue to inspire both fans and fellow golfers alike.
