St. John’s and St. Mary’s Schools Celebrate Unity in Annual Walk
Students and staff from St. John’s Catholic School and St. Mary’s School gathered on the afternoon of October 13, 2023, for their annual event, known as the *Walk His Way*. This cherished tradition fosters a sense of community through prayer, fellowship, and fun, bringing together students from both schools located in Wahpeton and Breckenridge.
The event took place at Welles Memorial Park, where participants met near the walking bridge. Together, they engaged in a collective prayer of the Rosary while walking the park’s scenic paths. The gathering provided an opportunity for students to reflect on their faith and strengthen their connections with one another.
As the afternoon unfolded, the atmosphere was filled with laughter and camaraderie. The event concluded with a spirited relay game, where students passed tennis and whiffle balls using only their feet. This added a playful element to the day, enhancing the sense of unity among the participants.
Among those taking part were Ellie Hodny and Juliet Schnell, both fourth graders at St. John’s Catholic School, who were seen walking together towards the park. Jack Stuehrenberg, a student from St. Mary’s School, led his peers in prayer during the Rosary, highlighting the central theme of the event.
The students from St. Mary’s School walked to the park accompanied by their teachers, creating a vibrant procession that underscored the importance of community. Tom Haire, principal of St. Mary’s School, addressed the students, emphasizing the significance of their gathering and the values they share.
In the spirit of celebration, students from both schools shared joyful moments, including friendly hugs and high-fives as they interacted during the relay game. This sense of connection and enjoyment reflects the essence of the Walk His Way event, which aims not only to promote faith but also to foster friendships that transcend school boundaries.
The annual Walk His Way serves as a reminder of the power of community and faith, bringing together young individuals to celebrate their shared beliefs while creating lasting memories. As the students left Welles Memorial Park, the spirit of unity lingered, promising a continuation of this enriching tradition in the years to come.
