Dennis J. “Dinny” Hewitt, aged 84, died on March 14, 2026. Born on September 4, 1941, in Syracuse, New York, he moved to Grant City, Staten Island, in 1951. A proud alumnus of St. Peter’s Boys High School, Hewitt later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Baruch College using the GI Bill after serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Hewitt dedicated nearly three decades of his life to working as a teamster, retiring in 1998. In 1971, he married Georgiana “Gigi” Gunn, with whom he raised four children in Grant City. Known for his passion for gardening, Hewitt grew exceptional tomatoes and enjoyed reading, cooking, and sports, particularly supporting the Mets, Giants, and Rangers.

Honoring Angelina Battista

Angelina Battista, who lived to the remarkable age of 102, passed away on March 8, 2026. Originally from Staten Island, she was a devoted mother to Martha Walker, Bart Battista, and the late Angela Battista. Battista also cherished her role as a grandmother to seven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to thirteen.

Born to the late Benjamin and Angelina Naimo, she is survived by her brother Benjamin Naimo along with many nieces and nephews. A service in her memory will be held at Olivet Presbyterian Church on March 18, where friends and family will gather to celebrate her extraordinary life.
