Two administrators at the Trinity United Methodist Church Child Development Center in Huntsville, Alabama, have been placed on administrative leave following serious allegations of child sexual abuse against a former employee. On January 23, 2024, authorities arrested 24-year-old Cameron White for one count of sexual abuse involving a child under the age of 12. The charges stemmed from a report made by the daycare officials to the Madison County Department of Human Resources regarding inappropriate contact between White and a child.

In a letter addressed to parents, Rev. Dr. Dedric Cowser, the head pastor of the church, announced the decision to place Sheryl Raddin, the Child Development Center Director, and Megan Tarin, the Associate Director, on leave. This action is part of a broader effort to ensure that proper protocols were followed during the time of the alleged incidents. Rev. Dr. Cowser emphasized that this decision is not a conclusion but rather a necessary step to review documentation and communication procedures.

During the period of administrative leave, the oversight of the Child Development Center will transition to Rev. Carrie Jones, the Executive Pastor, alongside Heather Atkinson, the Classroom Success Coordinator. Rev. Dr. Cowser assured parents that they would be present and accessible, working closely with staff to maintain stability and ensure continuity of care for the children.

In the letter, Rev. Dr. Cowser expressed compassion and support for affected families, stating, “Please know that we are holding you, your children, and the entire CDC community in prayer. Our hearts are breaking alongside yours, and we remain committed to walking through this season with care, honesty, and compassion.”

In response to the allegations, attorney Bart Siniard of Siniard Law, LLC, has initiated a lawsuit against White, the Trinity Child Development Center, and Trinity United Methodist Church. The lawsuit claims negligence in the supervision and protection of the children at the facility.

As investigations continue, the church community is grappling with the implications of these events, and parents are left seeking reassurance regarding their children’s safety and well-being.
