United Way Celebrates Enrollment Milestone in Imagination Library
The United Way of Whitman County has achieved a significant milestone, enrolling over 1,000 children under the age of five in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. This marks the first occasion that Whitman County has reached half of all age-eligible children in the region. The announcement was made in a news release on Friday, highlighting the program’s expanding impact on early childhood literacy.
The increase in enrollment can be attributed to the efforts of dedicated volunteers and student interns from Washington State University. Each summer, these individuals have set up booths at various community events, promoting the benefits of the Imagination Library. The program provides participants with a free book delivered to their homes each month, fostering a love for reading from an early age.
Since its launch in April 2022, the Imagination Library has enrolled more than 1,544 children and delivered nearly 34,000 books across 22 towns in Whitman County. This impressive outreach reflects the community’s commitment to supporting early childhood education and ensuring that children have access to quality reading materials.
The United Way encourages community members to learn more about the Whitman County Imagination Library program and its benefits for local children. Interested individuals can find additional information or make donations by visiting whitmanunited.org/imaginationlibrary.
As the program continues to grow, the United Way of Whitman County remains focused on enhancing literacy and educational opportunities for young children, reinforcing the importance of reading in their early development. The success of the Imagination Library serves as a testament to the power of community involvement and collaboration in fostering a brighter future for the youngest residents of Whitman County.
