Mary Tatro Van Tichelt, a beloved member of the Tehama County community, passed away on November 22, 2025, at the age of 69. Her life was characterized by deep family bonds and a commitment to helping others, leaving behind a legacy cherished by family and friends alike.

A Life Dedicated to Family and Community

Born on May 19, 1956, Mary spent her entire life in Tehama County, where she was known for her kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit. She is survived by her husband, Bill Van Tichelt, her son, Walter Van Tichelt, and her granddaughters, Sierra and Violet Van Tichelt. Mary was the daughter of George and Sally Tatro and the granddaughter of Sam and Rachel Stone.

Mary’s devotion to her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She played an active role in raising her granddaughters and caring for her mother, showcasing her commitment to family values. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, as she enjoyed spending time with her siblings, Rachel, George, Sara, Sam, and Betsy, as well as her nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Passion for Nature and Animals

Mary’s love for the outdoors was matched by her passion for animals. Living on the same five acres in El Camino (Gerber) her entire life, she nurtured a variety of animals, including cows, sheep, goats, and chickens. Her garden flourished with flowers, despite occasional challenges presented by her curious livestock. A constant presence in her life was her dog, Duchess, who will also be missed by the family.

The values Mary held dear were exemplified through her actions. She often helped others in the community, whether it was assisting cousins with cattle or creating unique denim blankets for family members. Her zest for life was apparent as she embraced adventures such as hunting, mountain climbing, and travelling with her loved ones.

Mary and Bill’s partnership was a cornerstone of her happiness. Their mutual support for each other’s dreams and aspirations created a joyful life filled with laughter and love. Mary’s ability to find joy in simple pleasures, such as gardening or spending time with family, made her a truly remarkable person.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 28, 2025, from 11:00 to 14:00 at the Molino Masonic Family Center, located at 25020 Tehama Vina Rd, Los Molinos, CA 96055. Family and friends are invited to honor Mary’s memory through stories and shared experiences.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Deserving Pets Rescue, PO Box 371, Red Bluff, CA 96080, Mercy Hospice, 1544 Market St., Redding, CA 96001, or a charity of choice. Mary’s legacy can continue through acts of kindness, helping others, and embracing joy in everyday life.
