Michael Godes, affectionately known as “Lippy” or “Mike,” passed away on November 20, 2025, at the age of 81. A resident of East Bethel, Minnesota, Godes touched the lives of many through his dedication to family and community service. Born on October 30, 1944, in St. Paul, Minnesota, he lived a life rich in experiences and relationships, spanning from Mendota Heights to California, France, and Germany.

Godes devoted much of his life to helping others, beginning with his service as an S4 and radio operator in the Army for three years. After his military service, he found his true calling in psychiatric nursing. For 43 years, he worked primarily at Ramsey/Region’s Hospital, where he made a significant impact through his compassionate care. Colleagues and patients alike admired his empathetic approach, which helped countless individuals during their most challenging times.

In his personal life, Godes enjoyed a variety of activities. He was passionate about fishing, entertained himself with game shows and episodes of NCIS, and cherished moments spent with friends in the Card Club. Godes was also known for his enjoyment of a good cigar, often shared with family and friends.

Remembering a Loving Family Man

Michael Godes leaves behind a devoted family who will forever honor his memory. He is survived by his wife, Penny Krogmann; children, Elyse and Todd Godes; and grandchildren, Molly, Caleb, Owen, Georgiana, and Flynn. His sister, Randee Lyons, and brother, John Godes, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, also carry his legacy forward. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Gertrude Godes, and his brother, Thomas Godes.

As friends and family gather to celebrate his life, they reflect on the words from the Jewish scriptures, particularly Proverbs 17:6, which states, “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.” This sentiment encapsulates the love and pride he had for his family, mirroring the values he lived by throughout his life.
