Community Mourns the Loss of Janie Carol Thetford at 73
Janie Carol Thetford, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, at the age of 73. Surrounded by her loved ones, she left behind a legacy defined by kindness and devotion. Janie was born on September 12, 1952, in San Pedro, California, and her warm spirit touched the lives of many throughout her life.
A proud member of the San Pedro High School Class of 1970, Janie married soon after graduation and dedicated herself to her family. Her home was a sanctuary filled with love and laughter, a testament to her unwavering commitment to those she cared for. Janie’s greatest joy lay in nurturing her loved ones, and her influence will resonate in their lives for years to come.
Deep Connection to Nature
Janie had a profound affinity for nature, which she instilled in her daughters. She made it a daily ritual to feed the squirrels and birds, finding peace in caring for these creatures. This passion extended to her beloved pets, including her dog, Willie, and her cat, Quinn, who were constant companions in her life.
Her nurturing spirit was also reflected in her relationships. Janie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Johnny, and her first husband. She is survived by her devoted husband, Phil Max Thetford; her three daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Wiley, Jodi Beth Gilbert, and Missy Jean Wilson; and her treasured grandson, Stephen Wiley Wilson. Stephen was particularly close to Janie, often referred to as “the apple of her eye.”
Janie’s legacy is one of compassion and unconditional love. Those who knew her carry her spirit forward through the lessons she imparted and the gentle way she interacted with the world. Her memory continues to provide comfort and strength to all whose lives she touched.
Memorial Service and Donations
A service to honor Janie’s life is scheduled for November 25, 2025, at 14:00 at Green Hills in San Pedro. The family encourages attendees to celebrate Janie’s life and the values she embodied. In lieu of flowers, they request that donations be made to the San Pedro Animal Shelter, a cause close to Janie’s heart, reflecting her lifelong commitment to the welfare of animals.
The impact of Janie Carol Thetford’s life will be felt in San Pedro and beyond, as her love and kindness continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
