Community Remembers Suzanne R. Rubincam, Beloved Educator and Matriarch
Suzanne R. Rubincam, a cherished member of the Palos Verdes Estates community in California, passed away on September 28, 2025, in Redondo Beach, California. She was 84 years old. Suzanne is remembered not only for her contributions to education but also for her vibrant personality and deep connection to family and friends.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Suzanne grew up in Evanston, Illinois, where she attended Northwestern University. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr., who famously crashed her Debutante Ball. Their charming encounter blossomed into a lasting romance that spanned over six decades.
A Life Dedicated to Music and Family
After graduating, Suzanne and Paul moved to California, ultimately settling in the Lunada Bay neighborhood, where they lived for 55 years. Known affectionately as Sue, Susie, Miss Susie, and Grammy, she dedicated her career to teaching music at Rolling Hills Country Day School. There, she inspired countless children through elaborate plays that not only showcased their talents but also fostered their love of music.
Outside of her professional life, Suzanne had a passion for the beach. She spent her summers enjoying time with close friends at the Portuguese Bend Club. On cooler days, she turned her attention to needlepoint, creating intricate pieces of art that she loved to share with family and friends. Among her many talents, playing the piano and tending to her beautiful rose garden brought her immense joy.
Family was central to Suzanne’s life. She leaves behind her son, Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam, and his wife, Denise; her daughter, Amy Rubincam Steadman, and her husband, Will; and three granddaughters, Chloe Rae Rubincam, Summer Elizabeth Steadman, and Mia Christine Steadman. As a mother and grandmother, her warmth and affection were evident to all who knew her.
Legacy of Love and Laughter
Known for her radiant smile and exceptional culinary skills, Suzanne’s lemon meringue pie was a particular favorite among family and friends. Her relationship with Paul was one of deep love and companionship; they were often seen as the best dancers at social gatherings, and their connection was well-known within their community.
In accordance with her wishes, no formal funeral service will take place. Instead, the family encourages those wishing to honor Suzanne’s memory to consider making a donation to support Alzheimer’s research. Messages and memories can be shared on the Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions website at www.LAfuneral.com.
As the community reflects on her life, Suzanne R. Rubincam’s legacy as a devoted mother, grandmother, and beloved educator will continue to resonate. Her spirit and contributions to music education have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
