Remembering Kathleen Ann Giacalone: A Life of Service and Love

Kathleen Ann Giacalone, a beloved educator and community member, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on April 24, 1937, in San Pedro, California, she was the daughter of Vincent and Antoinette Vitalich. Kathleen’s legacy is marked by her dedication to teaching and her passion for travel during her later years.

Kathleen dedicated an impressive 39 years of her life to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher. Her commitment to education left a lasting impact on countless students and their families. After retiring from teaching, Kathleen embraced her love for travel, exploring various destinations and cultures.

She is survived by her husband, Rosario (Jack) Giacalone; her daughter, ToniLynn (Tomo) Meek; her son, Paul (Kelly) Giacalone; and her four grandchildren, Tommy, Anthony, Jacquelyn, and Gianna. In addition to her immediate family, Kathleen leaves behind many nieces and nephews who cherished her warm spirit and caring nature.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kathleen’s name to several charitable organizations, including Shriners Children’s, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, and the San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild. These contributions reflect Kathleen’s lifelong commitment to helping others and her belief in giving back to the community.

A Funeral Mass will be held to honor Kathleen’s life on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Mary Star of the Sea Church, beginning at 10:30 a.m.. Family, friends, and community members are invited to celebrate her life and the impact she made on those around her.

Kathleen Ann Giacalone will be remembered not only for her professional achievements but also for her kindness, love for family, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
