Bally’s Advances Major Las Vegas Entertainment District Plans

Bally’s Corporation is making significant strides in its ambitious plans to develop a large entertainment district near the future home of the Oakland Athletics on the Las Vegas Strip. Local officials have taken the initial step toward approving Bally’s land-use plans, recommending that permits for the project’s first phase proceed. This development is closely tied to the construction of a new ballpark, estimated to cost approximately $2 billion.

Project Overview and Objectives

Bally’s proposal is set to move to the Clark County Commission for final consideration, marking an important milestone for the multi-phase facility that will encompass several million square feet upon completion, with a projected cost of around $1.19 billion. The initial phase of the project will focus on foundational and structural elements necessary for both the ballpark and a forthcoming resort. Plans include a hotel tower, casino, retail promenades, entertainment venues, and diverse dining options, culminating in a theater.

A key feature of the development is a three-level plaza designed to create a vibrant pedestrian hub near the stadium entrance, aimed at attracting visitors year-round. This approach intends to ensure that the complex operates beyond just game days. The proposed resort tower will offer approximately 1,800 guest rooms, providing seamless access to both the casino and the ballpark. Notably, the entire complex will be elevated above street level, featuring a central hub accessible through escalators, elevators, and existing pedestrian bridges connecting to the nearby Excalibur and MGM Grand.

Construction Progress and Future Plans

Construction of the ballpark has already commenced, with crews breaking ground on the nine-acre site last summer. To date, the project has absorbed over $300 million. As the steel framework rises, the seating bowl is taking shape, with workers completing the structures that will support upper-deck seating and luxury suites. Once completed, the stadium will accommodate approximately 33,000 fans and will share its infrastructure with the surrounding resort district.

The completion of the ballpark is anticipated in 2028, coinciding with the launch of Phase 1 of the casino resort. This initial phase will include essential utilities, parking structures, and retail and dining spaces surrounding the stadium. Subsequent phases will focus on constructing the hotel towers and expanding the available amenities.

For Bally’s, this project represents one of the most ambitious developments in its history. It also signifies a crucial step in Las Vegas’ evolution into a premier sports hub where professional sports teams, entertainment venues, and casino resorts increasingly operate in concert. High-profile events, such as the F1 Grand Prix, have already showcased the potential benefits of this transformation for all stakeholders involved.
