Boxing Legends Inducted into International Hall of Fame Class of 2026
The International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota has officially announced the Class of 2026. This prestigious group features notable figures from the boxing world, including Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin, Antonio Tarver, and Nigel Benn in the Men’s Modern category, alongside Naoko Fujioka and Jackie Nava in the Women’s Modern category. The induction ceremony will take place during the Hall of Fame Induction Weekend from June 11 to 14, 2026.
Gennadiy Golovkin, a former professional boxer from Kazakhstan, has earned a place among boxing’s elite. Competing from 2006 to 2022, Golovkin is a two-time former unified champion, holding titles from the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, and International Boxing Federation at various times between 2014 and 2023. Notably, he challenged for the undisputed super middleweight championship in 2022 and is recognized as a former International Boxing Organization middleweight champion, a title he held twice from 2011 to 2023.
Antonio Tarver has also made his mark in the sport, competing from 1997 to 2015. Tarver is a celebrated light heavyweight champion, having held multiple titles including the WBA Unified, WBC, IBF, and Ring magazine championships. His Olympic journey includes a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1996 Olympics, where he famously lost to Kazakhstan’s Vassiliy Jirov after previously defeating him at the 1995 World Championships. Tarver remains the only boxer to have won gold at the Pan American Games, World Championships, and U.S. Nationals in the same year.
British boxer Nigel Benn, who now resides in Australia, competed from 1987 until 1996 and is a two-weight world champion. Benn held the WBO middleweight title in 1990 and was the WBC super-middleweight champion from 1992 to 1996. With an impressive knockout ratio of 83.3%, Benn defeated several world champions during his career, including Doug DeWitt and Chris Eubank. His title defenses included nine consecutive successful outings as WBC super-middleweight champion, with the iconic chimes of Big Ben often signaling his entrance to the ring.
In the Women’s Modern category, Naoko Fujioka stands out as Japan’s first five-division world champion. She held the WBA female flyweight title from 2017 to 2022 and has previously secured multiple titles, including the WBC female minimumweight and the WBO female bantamweight titles. Her accolades highlight her significant contributions to women’s boxing.
Jackie Nava is another remarkable inductee, known for her achievements in two weight classes. She held the WBA female bantamweight title in 2005 and captured the WBC female super bantamweight title twice between 2005 and 2015.
The Class of 2026 also includes posthumous inductions for individuals who made significant impacts in the sport. Referee Frank Cappuccino, trainer and cut man Jimmy Glenn, and physician Dr. Edwin “Flip” Homansky will be honored in the Non-Participant category. Broadcaster Alex Wallau will be recognized in the Observer category, while Jimmy Clabby will receive induction in the Old Timer category.
“We’re thrilled about the Class of 2026 and are very much looking forward to honoring the newest class of inductees to earn boxing’s highest honor,” said Edward Brophy, Executive Director of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. The inductees were selected through a vote by the Boxing Writers Association and a panel of international boxing historians.
