Christophe Jallet Advises AC Milan to Pursue Guillaume Restes
European clubs are actively scouting players from Leeds United as they prepare for the January transfer window. Among the players attracting interest is goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who has been linked to both AC Milan and Inter Milan. However, a prominent voice in French football, former Paris Saint-Germain defender Christophe Jallet, has urged AC Milan to reconsider their interest in Meslier, suggesting they pursue another option instead.
Jallet spoke to Milan News, where he expressed his concerns about Meslier’s recent performance. Despite Leeds United currently languishing in the relegation zone, Meslier’s potential move to a major club like AC Milan has sparked debate. Jallet emphasized that while Meslier has talent, he believes that Guillaume Restes of Toulouse would be a safer choice.
Jallet’s Assessment of Goalkeeping Options
In his analysis, Jallet highlighted the differences between the two keepers. He noted that Meslier’s leaner physique and inconsistency might not suit a club as prestigious as AC Milan. In contrast, he praised Restes for his physicality and reliability, stating, “Meslier is leaner and more skinny, Restes is more powerful. It’s difficult to choose, but I’d go with Guillaume because he gives me more confidence.”
Jallet’s viewpoint resonates with the growing concerns surrounding Meslier’s form this season. Under Daniel Farke, Meslier has slipped to third choice behind Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow, raising doubts about his readiness for a move to a top-tier club. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has lost his starting position and is reportedly struggling with confidence, which could hinder his transition to a team of AC Milan’s stature.
January Transfer Prospects for Meslier
Despite Jallet’s warning, Meslier remains an appealing option for multiple clubs in Europe. With his contract set to expire this summer, Leeds United is likely to consider a cut-price transfer in January to avoid the risk of losing him for free. Clubs such as Strasbourg, Anderlecht, and Celtic are monitoring the situation closely, indicating that there is still a strong likelihood of a transfer.
Leeds United’s management is preparing for potential offers, and Jallet’s comments may influence AC Milan’s decision-making. Ultimately, while the message from France is clear—AC Milan should prioritize Restes—the market for Meslier is still active, with various clubs willing to consider him for a January deal.
The transfer window presents opportunities, and for Leeds United, the hope remains that they can successfully offload Meslier, regardless of Jallet’s recommendations for AC Milan. As January approaches, the dynamics of the transfer market will continue to evolve, keeping all eyes on the goalkeeper’s future.
