Allen Community College (ACC) will honor former baseball standout Duane Wales during its Athletics Hall of Fame induction event scheduled for February 13-14, 2026. Wales, a key player for the Red Devils in the early 1980s, made a significant impact on the program, earning recognition as one of its most accomplished hitters.

Wales, originally from Portsmouth, Ohio, joined the Red Devil baseball team in the fall of 1981. Initially recruited as a pitcher, he quickly distinguished himself with his exceptional batting skills. In his freshman year, Wales set numerous school records, achieving an impressive total of 88 hits, 17 home runs, 86 RBIs, and a remarkable .379 batting average.

As a sophomore in 1983, Wales built on his previous success by breaking his own records. He recorded 92 hits, 25 home runs, and 88 RBIs, which led to his selection to the Region VI All-Star team as a designated hitter. His performance during the 1983 NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado, was particularly noteworthy. There, he led all players with a stunning .632 batting average, finishing with 12 hits from 19 at-bats, including two home runs and eight RBIs. For this achievement, he received the “Big Stick” award and was named to the Junior College World Series All-Tournament Team.

Following his time at ACC, Wales continued his baseball journey at the University of Texas-Pan American and Fort Hays State University, where he maintained the high standards he set during his tenure at Allen. His legacy as one of the program’s all-time great hitters remains strong, with his records still celebrated in ACC baseball history.

In addition to honoring Wales, the induction ceremony will also recognize five other notable individuals, including Bob Saueressig (Cross Country & Track, 1967–68), Kenny Norris (Track & Field, 1973–74), Apple Jones (Women’s Basketball, 1990–92), the 1996 Golf Team, and Judith Bragg (Volleyball Coach, 1973–82).

Allen Community College invites the community to join in celebrating the achievements of these distinguished athletes during this special event.
