Durant Dominates as Rockets Defeat Celtics 128-101
Kevin Durant showcased his scoring prowess with 26 points, leading the Houston Rockets to a decisive 128-101 victory over the Boston Celtics on March 30, 2024. This win marked the Rockets’ third consecutive triumph after a challenging start to the season, improving their record to 3-2, while the Celtics saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.
Durant’s performance was complemented by Amen Thompson, who contributed significantly with 17 points and nine rebounds. Alperen Sengun had a standout game as well, posting 16 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. The Rockets demonstrated their offensive efficiency, shooting an impressive 57 percent in the first half and establishing a commanding 66-48 lead by halftime.
The Celtics struggled to find their rhythm throughout the match. Baylor Scheierman led Boston with 17 points, while Payton Pritchard added 14 points, and Josh Minott finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Jaylen Brown, who had scored 32 points in a previous game against Philadelphia, was held to 12 points and sat out the final quarter.
Durant’s scoring included a notable 8 of 11 from the floor and 8 of 9 from the foul line. His ability to capitalize on Boston’s frustrations was evident, particularly when a series of technical fouls in the third quarter allowed him to extend Houston’s lead to 74-50. Celtics coach Joe Mazzula received a technical foul early in the period, followed by a 3-second violation and a flopping call on Chris Boucher, further exacerbating the team’s struggles.
As the game progressed, the Rockets continued to dominate, leading 97-72 at the end of the third quarter. By this time, many Boston fans had already started leaving the arena, recognizing the outcome was no longer in doubt. The Rockets’ rebounding game was also a crucial factor, as they outperformed the Celtics on the boards, 53-36.
Looking ahead, the Rockets will host the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night, while the Celtics will face off against the Utah Jazz the same evening. Both teams will aim to regroup and build momentum as the season continues.
