Redshirt junior quarterback Gunner Stockton has garnered significant accolades following his impressive performance in leading the Georgia Bulldogs to a 43-35 victory over the fifth-ranked Ole Miss on October 28, 2023. Following the game, Stockton received multiple weekly awards, showcasing his outstanding contributions to the team’s success.

Stockton’s recent honors include being named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, the Walter Camp National FBS Offensive Player of the Week, the Davey O’Brien Award National Quarterback of the Week, and one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week. Additionally, on October 30, he was recognized as the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Notably, he is the first player this season to earn the Davey O’Brien Award distinction twice.

This victory marks the 12th time a Georgia player has received the Walter Camp honor and the first such recognition since Stetson Bennett in 2022. During the game against Ole Miss, Stockton completed 26 of 31 passes, accumulating 289 yards and achieving a career-high four touchdowns. He also rushed for 59 yards and a score, demonstrating versatility and skill on the field.

The game featured a remarkable turnaround, as Georgia trailed by nine points in the second half. Stockton orchestrated a comeback, completing all 12 of his passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns in the final quarter, leading to a 17-0 run for the Bulldogs. His performance marked a historic achievement, making Georgia the first team to score on its first eight drives against an Associated Press top 10 opponent since 2016.

Furthermore, Stockton’s precision is noteworthy; he became the first quarterback to achieve a perfect completion rate in a half against an AP top five opponent since Aaron Rodgers did so in 2004.

Looking ahead, the No. 5 Bulldogs, with a record of 6-1 and 3-1 in the SEC, will face Florida (3-4, 2-2) in Jacksonville, Florida, on November 1. The game will be televised on ABC at 15:30 (3:30 p.m.) local time, presenting another opportunity for Stockton to shine and continue his remarkable season.
