Jerry Jones Confirms Cowboys’ Intent to Trade Ahead of Deadline
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear that the team remains active in the player market as the NFL trade deadline approaches. This announcement follows a disappointing 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on October 30, 2025, marking the Cowboys’ second consecutive defeat at their home ground, AT&T Stadium. The team’s record has now dropped to 3-5-1, raising concerns about their playoff prospects after missing the postseason last year.
With the trade deadline set for October 31, Jones emphasized that the Cowboys are still looking to acquire players capable of making an immediate impact. Despite the setback against Arizona, he expressed confidence that the team has plans in place to bolster their roster. Earlier on the same day, Jones suggested that a deal might already be in the works, although he refrained from disclosing specific details.
“Today was all about tomorrow,” Jones stated, reiterating his belief that the team’s strategy remains unchanged despite the recent losses. “We still can, yes. Stand by what I’ve said. Absolutely. We’ll see how tomorrow goes.” He underscored the importance of patience in negotiations, indicating that he aims to outmaneuver competing teams.
Jones explained, “I just don’t want another team, if I’m interested in completing [the trade], to step in and get it. I’ve had that happen several times, and it happens.” He noted that in the NFL, no trade is finalized until both parties submit documentation to the league office simultaneously. “That’s why I would say there’s no trade,” he added, emphasizing the complexities of trade negotiations.
The Cowboys’ recent performance has raised alarms, particularly on the defensive side. The team has now lost three of its last four games, and the defense has struggled significantly since the departure of Micah Parsons. The lack of a consistent pass rush has left the unit vulnerable, making it difficult to apply pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
On the offensive front, Dak Prescott continues to deliver strong performances. He has the support of key players like CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, while running back Javonte Williams has emerged as a valuable addition this offseason. Despite this talent, the Cowboys find themselves in second place in the NFC East, trailing the Philadelphia Eagles, who hold a record of 6-2.
While the Cowboys are not currently in a playoff position, a successful trade and subsequent resurgence could change their fortunes. Jones appears to be banking on a strategic move at the deadline to help shift the narrative surrounding the team. As the clock counts down to the deadline, all eyes will be on Dallas to see if they can make a bold move that revitalizes their season.
