New York Jets’ Kris Boyd Critically Injured in NYC Shooting
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical condition after being shot in New York City early on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 02:00 on West 38th Street, near Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. While the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that a 29-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, they have not officially named the victim. However, multiple sources, including CBS News New York, have identified Boyd as the individual involved.
According to reports, the shooting followed a verbal dispute that escalated into violence. Eyewitness accounts suggest that tensions rose quickly, leading to the tragic incident. Boyd was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The New York Jets released a statement acknowledging the situation: “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.” As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed his concern for Boyd and his family through social media. He stated, “I am praying for New York Jets player Kris Boyd and his loved ones. Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence. Too many young lives have been tragically altered and cut short by this epidemic.”
Kris Boyd signed a one-year contract with the Jets in March 2023. He has been on injured reserve since August. Before joining the Jets, Boyd played for the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him from the University of Texas in 2019.
The Jets’ current season record stands at 2-8, and they do not have a scheduled game this Sunday following a recent 27-14 loss to the New England Patriots.
This situation is still developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
